Our Magical, Fantastic, Imaginary Journey

This term we are reading lots of stories about journeys. We are writing our own stories about the adventures we would like to have. Some of the places we would like to visit are real and some are imaginary.

Top o' the mornin'to you!

We had great fun today in our green clothes for St Patrick's Day and it was great to be able to come to school at night time and catch up with our friends. Thanks to all the mums and dads in our school who worked so hard to organise the St Patrick's Day Fun Night. It was awesome!

Good Fun on Grandparents' Day

We celebrated "Grandparents' Day" with all of the Year 1 classes on Friday 9th March.
It was great fun to have so many Grandparents able to join us for the activities. We made handprints with our grandparents and read lots of stories. We sang songs for them and then we ate some delicious "G" foods. Thankyou to all those grandparents who were able to come. We hope that our grandparents who couldn't make it will enjoy looking at our blog and reading about all of the things we have been doing in class.

Grandchild's Hand
The promise of tomorrow
And the hope of dreams come true...
A reminder of the childhood
That's still a part of you...

The wonder of a miracle
From which this love began...
There is so much found in the touch
Of holding a grandchild's hand.

What a busy day!

This morning we had lots of friendly helpers for our scrapbooking morning and after an hour of plenty of fun and hard work, we now have a beautiful scrapbook of the people in our class.
A big thanks to all those Mums and Dads who were able to stay and help us to put it together - and also thanks to all those who sent in photos, comments, stickers and paper to make our pages bright and colourful.
Please find some time to visit our classroom to view your child's page and those of their friends.

This week we are looking at the /j/ sound so we made jack-in-the-box and cooked jelly. We also counted jellybeans (and got to eat one too!).

We are looking forward to learning about the hard /g/ sound too over the next few days and we are especially looking forward to our Grandparents Morning on Friday.

Learning is so much fun in 1B!

This week we had a Pyjama Party with pizza and popcorn. We had lots of fun but we looked pretty peculiar in our Pyjamas!

Ash Wednesday

Today we went to the hall to have a special liturgy for Ash Wednesday.

We thought about ways we can "let our light shine" during Lent. We received ashes in a cross on our foreheads to remind us to make good choices instead of bad choices.

We took our lantern back to our room and set our special table with a purple cloth because purple is the "sorry" colour for Lent.

We put forty purple beans on the table so we can count the 40 days (not counting Sundays) until Easter. Bea made a cross for our table to remind us of Jesus.

We made special promises for Lent too.

This week we are trying to be helpful to others, just like Jesus taught us in the Gospel.

We heard the story of the Good Samaritan and also read about how Jesus helped to make a sick girl better.

Our Super Second Week!

This week has been just as much fun as our first week. I think the year will just keep getting better and better!

Our Sound Muncher was eating the /s/ sound this week and we were busy making things that start with 's' too.

We made snakes, submarines, starfish and seahorses and talked about sun safety too.

SLIP, SLOP, SLAP is very important at school!

We also went swimming for the first time this week which was great because not only does it start with 's' but it kept us nice and cool too.

What a fun first week!

We had a great time getting to know eachother this week. We worked so hard each day and were very tired by 3 o'clock!

Some of our favourite activities were:

  • searching for the gingerbread men

  • learning to read our special book about our school

  • feeding the sound muncher

  • measuring our heights

  • bubble painting

  • writing in our house books

We can't wait to see what we do next week!

Welcome to 1B!

Welcome to 1B's blog!
I hope that this project will enthuse and encourage my students to write for a purpose. The aim is to provide the students with more opportunities for group and independent writing, as well as allowing parents and friends of our class community to keep in touch with what is happening in our classroom.
Please remember that this blog is on the World Wide Web. This means that it is open and available to be viewed by anyone! You are welcome to share this address with friends and family all over the globe. It would be lovely to have visitors from near and far! It is my intention to show student work on this page, and the safety of the children will always be paramount. Children will be identifiable by their first names only and I would appreciate if you would also respect this in your comments.
Feel free to comment on what you see on our blog. Please keep comments respectful and encouraging!

Happy blogging!
